Reaping What We Sow

This is my most bountiful year in a garden to date, the year my family joined together and built a hugelkulture by hand.

Many years in this Kansas heat, spurred on by a lack of knowledge, my gardens have withered by mid- to late-July. So to see cucumbers, tomatoes, squash of many varieties, radish, flowers, and more, grow abundantly, has been a delight beyond just fresh produce just outside our door.
This has been a joy! Simply knowing how many failed attempts I’ve made before, how many fruitless efforts with unhelpful advice moving through my hands, how many gallons of water used to result in no fruit for my hard hard labors.

This year, my hugelkulture has made gardening not only easier, but we have needed to water less since the structure retains water longer, and I’ve seen the abundant fruit of deliberate labor. I am seeing it work, together.

It has often reminded me of the hard work I have seen so many put into moving more dynamically through healthy body alignment. Once we begin investing richly, it goes deeper and starts to become easier with time.

Just some stray thoughts from a harvesting time.

Intentionally,

Jess
