Summer is slowly simmering away and honey bees are starting to push the male drones out of the hives. I’ve got bees on my mind as we make plans for a log-hive when we begin a permaculture adventure with others! We are still taking in the sights, sounds, smells, feels, and tastes of summer, though.
I am getting a little unfocused for this blog post, but really it all connects, because I think it’s the bee’s knees to know…. how to relax your kneecaps down!
What’s that mean, you may find yourself asking.
Relaxing your kneecaps down is a wonderful indicator of a few things.
It means you can isolate your kneecaps from other parts of your body – your brain and body know that the kneecap is different from your calf muscles and your hip socket, your thighs or your toes. It also means that you do have the ability to relax your thigh muscles, those powerful quadriceps that we all use SO often to hold us up – which means you can use your feet and butt and so much more than your quadriceps to keep you upright! It means you can give your thighs a break from being so tight, to use those other parts of yourself more frequently and dynamically. It also means you have learned to relax a part of your body into alignment rather than trying to cram it into alignment. I feel the kneecaps is where I really learned that last lesson the best way.
It is very important that you remind yourself that getting into alignment is about relaxing yourself into it – that your body has made so many beautiful adaptations to misuse, and it really, truly wants to be in alignment, so relaxing allows your body to do what it needs to, easier and easier each time you try it.

Can you do this fun movement? Can you do a little dance with your kneecaps set to music? Have fun! Tell me all about it on social media!
